Ablamar of the Marsh was a knight. He possessed a white hart that was given to him by his lady.

His hart left and Gawaine's hounds chased it back to the castle and killed it in its chief place. Gawaine and Gaheris followed after. Right so Ablamar came out of a chamber with sword in hand and slew 2 greyhounds, chasing off the rest out of the castle with his sword. Coming again, he mourned for the hart and vowed to avenge its death. He went into his chamber to arm himself and came out fiercely, and he met with Gawaine, who complained for killing his hounds, as he should express his anger upon himself instead. Ablamar agreed and said he will avenge on Gawaine too. They struck together mightily, cloving their shields, stoning their helms, breaking their hauberks that the blood ran down to their feet. Finally Gawaine smote him so hard that he fell down and yielded, invoking his knighthood and nobility to show mercy, but Gawaine wanted revenge for his hounds. Ablamar promised to make amends, but Gawaine unlaced his helm to cut of his head.

Right then came his lady and fell over him, losing her head by mistake. Gaheris scolded Gawaine for his stance, and Gawaine repented and showed Ablamar mercy, who was devastated. Gawaine told him to go to King Arthur and tell these adventures and how he was overcome. Ablamar said he took no force whether he lives or dies, but for dread of death he obeyed, he took a greyhound behind and afore him on the horse; he said his name to Gawaine before riding to Camelot.
